1) Typically, you want to make sure they feel your presence. Whether it be a physical arrival to there office or an e-mail drip campaign, the referral partner should know you are available at a moments notice.
2) Provide your referral partner with professional marketing information in order to maximize their time when referring clients to your company. A referral from your client is the HOTTEST lead you will ever receive. It is your job to make your client look like a professional when they send you a lead.
3) Have team building sessions with your referral partners. Anything from office team building strategies to out of office treats such as lunches and entertainment. Bring something to the table for your referral partner. Allow them use your venues to build their business as well.
All-in-all, this outline is meant to educate young business owners on the importance of referral. Shotgun marketing seems great, but it is also expensive and tricky. Many campaigns need to be run for months at a time to see results. By building a referral base you guarantee that you will be receiving leads from producers in the industry.
